Relationship - not religion. We are hearing this a lot these days, and I know for a fact that Abba is the inspiration behind the sentiment. God truly hates religion and always has. His desire for His little ones (since the Garden of Eden) has ever been a relationship that can be defined as "in Spirit and in Truth".
Consider the greatest commandment of all time - reiterated by Yeshua in Matthew 22:37: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with... all your mind."
Relationship... not religion.
And here is the great irony...
People tend to think (until they think it through) that choosing relationship over religion would mean a more liberal-minded (willy-nilly) walk with God tasked with fewer expectations for obedience and character. But when you give your WHOLE SELF to Jesus in true love, you find the exact opposite occurring.
Someone merely adhering to the precepts of a religion will almost always bake in grace for failure - but someone who is personally vested in Jesus' happiness would rather be dead than to ever purposefully cause Him pain or harm.
Relationship beckons us to be more faithful - not merely to "keep a rule" and somehow "win points" (religion), but because we love our Abba and never wish to make Him cry. He does, you know - more than you can imagine - all because of what we do to Him in our recklessness and selfishness.
Religion is what results when relationship fails. It is like the cold contract between married people who are staying together "for the sake of the kids" - coexisting by the rules of marriage long after the embers have turned to ash and faithfulness has died away.
The whole point of Yeshua's atonement was to restore our intimacy with Abba - what was squandered in the Garden of Eden. Don't settle for less than what He desires for you.
True love - Fellowship - Relationship...
