A Little Fish Story...

Think of an aquarium filled with many kinds of fish. Now imagine that the water within the aquarium knows what the fish do - every move that they make and every deed they commit. The water (He, for this exercise) is the very source of their life - what sustains them.

Then imagine a fish (within the tank) attempting to do something without the water's knowledge.

Ludicrous. Impossible, one would reasonably conclude.

Stupid fish...

This is the most accurate picture that I have ever been given to illustrate the stupidity of "hiding" things from God. It cannot be done. The Great Holy Spirit of our Holy Father fills this (and every other) universe as water does an aquarium (or an ocean) giving life to everything within. As the book of Job proclaimed millennia ago - should He withdraw from us, all life would instantly perish.

"If it were his intention and he withdrew his spirit and breath, all humanity would perish together and mankind would return to the dust." Job 34:14-16

This clearly illustrates the depth of His grace and mercy - that He would endure our wicked, evil behavior and love us still. That He would endure the contempt and patronizing attitudes of His own creation as they think Him oblivious to their actions and deeds. Like that stupid fish thinking that it somehow "slipped one by" the water, and without its knowledge.

Stupid, silly, beloved fish...
